Show 014 – May Day-Songs and Tunes of Labor (2018-05-05)

posted in: Past Shows

To celebrate May Day, we’ve assembled a show about labor, unions, and hard work. Katie and Joe pulled up some meaty selections featuring a broad selection of work songs from the looms, collieries, roadways, railways and high seas. We also have some tunes featuring tunes named after work. but just because the nature of this week’s show, it’s mostly songs this week. We’re featuring songs and tunes from such artists as Dick Gaughan, Frank Harte, Kathleen Keane, Solas, and John Doyle. We have started keeping a ?Fair Pl?? score for each show. ?Fair Pl?? is a movement originating in Ireland to ensure a balance in festivals and radio airplay for women performers of traditional Irish and Celtic music. Our goal is a score of 40 to 60.(Fair Ple score: 42)
