On August 4th, the world lost one of the great Irish traditional players, the Donegal fiddler and prolific composer, Tommy Peoples. If you play Irish music, one of his tunes undoubtedly blossomed out of your instrument. He inspired and influenced so many musicians that he was the only logical (and obvious) choice for TG4’s “Traditional Musician of the Year Award” in 1998. Over the last few days, both Katie and Joe have been reading beautiful messages all across social media as musicians great and small share their memories of Tommy Peoples. To remember his contribution to Irish traditional music, we’re dedicating a full 40 minutes of our show to him and his music.
