Show 103 – St. Patrick’s Day (2020-03-14)

posted in: Past Shows

It’s a fine collection of songs and tunes to start off your St. Patrick’s Day celebration. According to legend, St Patrick was born in Roman-occupied Britain in the 5th century, was kidnapped by Irish brigands, and taken as a slave back to Ireland. He eventually escaped back to Britain, became a priest, and returned to Ireland to convert the pagan Irish to Christianity. Although celebrated with a boisterous party atmosphere across the world, the stories of St. Patrick fail to mention turning rivers or beer green, but music and song has been an Irish tradition for centuries…and that’s where you and we come in.

We celebrate St Patrick’s Day with tunes and songs from Irish musicians: The Friel Sisters; Dylan Carlos, Cein Sweeney, and John McCartin; The Bothy Band; Kathleen Keane; Len Graham; The High Seas; Boys Of The Lough; Screaming Orphans; Barry Kerr; Peter Carberry, Angelina Carberry and John Blake; Patrick Street; Altan; Mick O’Brien; Déanta; and James Keane.
