This week marks the anniversary of VE Day, when Allied forces gained victory in Europe, ending that chapter of World War II. Katie and Joe were riveted by the stories of the stunning bravery of Bill Millen, “The Mad Piper,” who marched along “Sword” beach at Normandy, playing “Highland Laddie,” and by the desperate valor of the 51st Highland Division as they were abandonded by the evacuation fleet at St. Valery. Since the Scottish had such a vital impact on the Allied victory in Europe, for this week’s show, we stayed with the theme of Scottish music and invited master bagpiper, David Brewer, to join us as a guest host. You can hear David’s work with west coast favorites, Molly’s Revenge, as well as The Fire Scottish Band.
This week, the three hosts play Ed Miller, Nuala Kennedy & Mike Bryan, Bonnie Rideout, Mick Conneely & David Munnelly, Ed McGurk, Ann Gray, Dick Gaughan, The Fire, Kathryn Tickell, Gordon Duncan, Bagad Quic-en Groigne, Ar Re Yaouank, The House Band, and Mari Black.
