Show 388 – Women in Celtic Music
(2025-08-30)

Almost a decade ago, performer Karan Casey was standing on stage at a festival and realized that out of the nineteen performers, she was the only woman. The FairPlé movement was born from that realization. Seeking equal representation in performances and broadcast, one of their slogans is “There is no limit on the space in our tradition: there is room for everyone.” Katie Marie and Joe put together an hour of traditional Celtic music featuring women artists.

The artists this week: Harem Scarem; Trian; The Shee; Ann Currane; Bumblebees; Niamh Parsons; Scottish Fish; Solenn Lefeuvre & Gilles Le Bigot; Emer Mayock; Sarah Dinan; Winifred Horan, John Williams, Katie Grennan, Utsav Lal; Bridget Fitzgerald; and Sarah Bauhan.

The FairPlé score this week: 100
