Show 271 – Emigration
(2023-06-03)

The history of Ireland and America is intricately bound by stories of emigration and immigration. Driven by the Great Hunger in 1847, millions of Irish left their homes and sailed west in a desperate bid for a better life, and if they survived the voyage on the coffin ships, often finding themselves in unscrupulous work conditions or immediately conscripted into the US Civil War. Katie Marie and Joe put together an hour of songs and tunes commemorating and celebrating the fortitude and determination of those journeys.

The artists this week: Frank Harte & Donal Lunny, Kathleen Keane, Francis McIlduff Band, Frank Quinn & Joe Maguire, Leo Rowsome, La Lugh, Déanta, Goitse, Christy Moore, Karan Casey & John Doyle, The House Devils, Caitlin Nic Gabhann, Fásta, and Gráinne Murphy.

Our FairPlé score this week is 50.
